Two spiders grabbed my attention one morning this week. To left we have the intricate web built by a grass spider upon an open area of my lawn. The protective funnel within which the predator lurks is evident just to the right of the upright blade of grass. Look closely to see the outline of the light brown spider.
Below is a clearer view.
Diligently spinning a web between the top strand of electric fence wire and an overhanging tree limb, the venusta orchard spider captured a small insect while I watched (sans camera) and quickly spun it into a mummy pouch.
