Great Pyrenees

Great Pyrenees are part of the Livestock Guarding Dog breed category. At Dry Hollow Farm, they fulfill the important task of protecting our goats and sheep in pasture. Predators include coyotes, bobcats, turkey vultures, and wild dogs.

Great Pyrenees instinctually understand the boundaries of their assigned territory and identify the livestock under their protection. They must be introduced before they are six months of age to which animals they must guard.

Our Great Pyrenees stay awake at night to patrol fence lines. They bark at intervals to announce their presence, which is usually incentive enough to keep predators away.
